Responsible digital
Let's help identify the school's commitments and ambitions
Webinar: Ethical and social issues of digital responsibility
Responsible digital technology is not simply a matter of using less energy and fewer materials, which can be optimized and made more efficient to improve its carbon footprint: sobriety is a good ambition, but it needs to be part of a broader “responsible” landscape. This must take into account the serious ecological consequences of the mining necessary for the material production of computers, smartphones and connected objects, which are coupled with consequences in terms of public health in the regions exploited; and the ecological and health consequences linked to the end-of-life of digital objects and their waste. Added to these challenges are those of “decent work” in these same production and end-of-life phases, but also in the production of AI, the maintenance and moderation of platforms and social networks, and click work. Digital business models also bear responsibility for attention-grabbing, the rise of fake news and the misuse of personal data. Finally, digital technology, far from the promise of the early days of the web, can be a factor of exclusion, amplifying socio-economic, educational and geographical inequalities. Faced with these facts, there are many real means of action and levers, many of which are in the hands of those who provide digital training, students and learners who are destined to play a role in it, and their employers: the conference will provide an opportunity to explore and discuss these levers.
